Most people are surprised when we tell them a dental crown can often be completed in a single visit.

For years, getting a crown meant scheduling two appointments, wearing a temporary crown, and waiting a week or two while a dental laboratory fabricated your final restoration. Today, many of those restorations can be designed, created, and placed before you leave our office.

At Woodlake Dental Center, we use CEREC technology to create beautiful, durable ceramic restorations with exceptional precision, often in just one appointment. Beyond saving time, it makes treatment more comfortable and eliminates many of the inconveniences patients have simply accepted for years.

What Is CEREC?

CEREC is a digital system that allows your dentist to design and fabricate custom ceramic restorations right here in our office.

Instead of taking traditional impressions and sending them to an outside dental laboratory, we capture a highly detailed digital scan of your teeth. Using advanced software, your restoration is designed specifically for your smile and then milled from a solid block of ceramic while you’re still here.

The result is a restoration that looks natural, fits precisely, and can often be completed the same day.

Why Patients Appreciate CEREC

Technology is only valuable if it makes the patient experience better. Dr. Jose Gallegos appreciates CEREC because this is exactly what it does.

“We love CEREC because it’s fast, efficient, and comfortable for our patients. In many cases, they only need one appointment, they don’t have to wear a temporary restoration, and they receive the same high-quality restoration they’d expect from a dental laboratory.” – Dr Jose Gallegos

For patients, that often means:

  • Fewer appointments, sometimes even just one
  • Emergency care completed in a single visit
  • No temporary restoration in many cases
  • No messy impression material
  • Less time away from work and family
  • A strong, natural-looking ceramic restoration

More Than Just Same-Day Crowns

When people hear CEREC, they usually think of dental crowns. While crowns are certainly one of its greatest strengths, that’s only part of what the technology can do.

Same-Day Crowns

A cracked tooth. A large cavity. A broken cusp. These are some of the most common reasons a patient needs a crown.

With CEREC, many of those teeth can be restored in a single visit, without wearing a temporary crown while waiting on a laboratory.

Multiple Crowns

If several teeth need treatment, CEREC often allows us to complete multiple crowns during the same appointment. Depending on your individual treatment plan, this can significantly reduce the number of visits needed.

Veneers

CEREC can also be used to create porcelain veneers for patients looking to improve the appearance of chipped, worn, stained, or uneven teeth.

Some patients only need one veneer. Others are interested in a complete smile transformation. Many of these cases can be completed much sooner than people expect.

Bridges

Not every bridge is the same.

Some can be designed and delivered the very same day, while others require a few additional days because of the type of bridge being fabricated. During your consultation, we’ll recommend the option that gives you the best long-term result, not simply the fastest one.

Implant Crowns

CEREC also improves the implant restoration process.

Digital scans are faster, more accurate, and far more comfortable than traditional impressions. That precision helps create implant crowns that fit beautifully while making the appointment easier for the patient.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is CEREC as durable as a laboratory-made crown?

Yes. CEREC restorations are fabricated from high-quality ceramic materials that provide excellent strength and aesthetics. With routine dental care, they can last for decades.

Does every patient qualify for same-day treatment?

Not always, every smile is different.  Some restorations can be completed in one visit, while others require additional planning or laboratory fabrication. We’ll recommend the treatment that’s best for your specific situation.

Are digital scans really better than impressions?

Most patients certainly think so. Digital scanning eliminates the trays and impression material many people find uncomfortable while providing remarkable accuracy.

Is CEREC only used for crowns?

No. CEREC technology is used for much more than crowns. Depending on your treatment needs, it can also be used for multiple crowns, veneers, certain bridges, and implants.
